For Me, Clothing Is The Star: The Style, Cuts, Fabrics, Colors, & Silhouettes
People always ask me what I do. I actually do a lot of things honestly because I’m an entrepreneur. When I first moved to Detroit it was because my mom was sick so I literally only concentrated on helping her. That led to my decision to stay in Detroit, which does not have a fashion industry but is slowly growing one. Now that she is better, and now that I no longer own the Gallery, and after taking the past 4 years to heal myself (emotionally & spiritually after the disappointment & trauma behind everything that happened with the Gallery) I’m starting all over again with my photography career.
In the time that I’ve been away many have entered “the game”. & folks here (in Detroit) are actually even more territorial than NYC (less opportunities). Thank goodness I create my own opportunities & don’t believe in competition. Whew!
Anyhoo, Sept 22nd I’m launching my own sustainable fashion magazine (I’m looking for submissions & talented Fashion Photographers, Portrait Photographers, Models, Stylist’s, Hair & Make Up Artists, Designers, etc).
This is an un-retouched never published story I shot as a test in NYC about 12 years ago. I love testing because it keeps me & my Team sharp & ready for work because we are always creating.
Let me know if you’d like to test with me (especially fashion stylists). Detroit does not have showrooms, smh but we have lots of Designers.
FYI I’m looking for folks who wish to up their game, have ideas, don’t use too much or toxic make up products, know how to make folks look better not like clowns nor theatrical, know how to showcase hair texture & create soft faces & not caked on product or too much product, people who know how to pose to make clothing shine & enhance the features of the clothing, not tryna be cute & too sexy & too sexual, for me clothing is the star: the style, cuts, fabrics, colors, silhouettes. I think this series is a great example of how to work outfits.
(Disclaimer: The images are super raw straight out the camera, i didn’t smooth out any skin nor wrinkles in clothing, nor enhance any color, nor brighten any areas, all of which should be done for publication.)
